Case 9
Agonizing Hair Loss
A male, 18 years old with free prior medical
history.
Three months before admission, he complained
of repeated attacks of:
-severe
abdominal pain, nausea with no motions change
-high grade
fever
After repeated consultations, no improvement
to the prescribed treatments for the postulated gastritis and
H.pylori infection diagnoses. In between attacks he was free of
symptoms.
He then had severe hair loss with no
response to local treatments. He was told to have severe
psychological issues causing this loss.
On presentation to our emergency room he
had:
-High-grade fever
-Hair loss
-Malar rash
-Hepato-splenomegaly
-Lymphadenopathy
-Pancytopebnia
-Albumin/creatinine: 1274 mg/l
Obviously, we considered it as S.L.E. in
male which is unusual.
